LAS VEGAS, March 27, 2018— The City of Las Vegas and International Market Centers, owners and operators of World Market Center, have announced a proposal for construction of a new 350,000-square-foot expo center in downtown Las Vegas.
The new center will be constructed at 445 S Grand Central Parkway on the 59.5-acre World Market Center campus, currently comprised of three interconnected buildings and three Pavilion temporary exhibit structures. The new state-of-the-art exhibition and meeting space will provide an option in Downtown Las Vegas to host larger scale tradeshows and conventions that cannot be accommodated through the existing inventory of event venues.
This new permanent structure will also be used for the biannual Las Vegas Market, a furniture, gift and home décor trade event that currently brings 100,000 visitors to the city each year. Additionally, International Market Centers will offer the facility for a set number of days throughout the year to host nonprofit events as designated by the Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency.
The project is expected to have significant impact on the Southern Nevada economy with an estimated $234 million in total economic output, of which $97 million is expected to directly benefit the Downtown area.
The estimated cost of the Expo Center is $79 million, of which the City of Las Vegas will contribute $30 million through a TIF (tax increment financing) note. Construction is slated to begin in the next 12-18 months and take approximately 18 months to complete.
The City Council will vote on the expo center on April 4, 2018.
